Fall sports are just around the corner! If your student athlete plans in going out for any school sports, they will need a sports physical! The professionals at Pondera Medical Center have reserved times specifically for these physicals to do a thorough check that your athlete is ready for competition. Each athlete who receives their physical from PMC will be entered into a drawing to win a brand-new 32 oz Hydro flask. Two names will be drawn!
It is important to determine that the athlete is in general good health prior to any physical activity, especially in physically demanding activities such as football, basketball, volleyball, etc. These limited sports physicals assess fitness levels, detect conditions that can predispose the athlete to new injuries, and help identify life threatening medical conditions such as certain cardiovascular or lung conditions.
The provider will review each patient’s medical and injury history, as well as take vitals, check lung and heart health in the general exam. This can help identify and address conditions that may restrict athletic participation, including:
Knee or joint instability
Femur or other bone fractures
Irregular heart beat
The medical history portion of the appointment will include questions that screen for possible complications from genetic risk factors, personal habits, illness, immunizations, and previous injuries. Sports physicals also give your child a chance to speak privately with a professional about other health related issues such as eating habits, substances they may be exposed to, peer pressure, etc.
PMC will have members of our Rehabilitation Team at the sports physical clinics to assess student athletes’ balance, posture, and ability to run and jump to ensure a safe sports season.
Aaron Dahle, PA-C, is offering sports physicals on Tuesday, July 30th from 1:20 pm to 5:00 pm and on Friday, August 2nd from 8:00 am to noon at the PMC Clinic.
