Golfing in Sunshine for a Worthy Cause – What More Could You Ask For?

Sunshine, Good Company, Worthy Cause – What More Could You Ask For?

On Saturday, July 7th, nearly 60 people gathered to support the Pondera Medical Center Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser by way of hitting the golf course and volunteering at the event.

Regardless of golfing ability, everyone had a chance to win fantastic gift basket items that were donated by local vendors. The golfers were served a light breakfast provided by Gary & Leo’s IGA along with water from Town Pump. Lunch was sponsored by the Home Café, Coaches Corner, The Main Drive-In, Frito Lay, and Subway. The beautiful day to play golf was complemented by the wonderful group of people that came out to play. This event would not have been possible without the generous support of local businesses.

Pondera Medical Center is committed to providing “the best of care, close to home” to this community. In order to continue providing high quality care to patients and residents, PMC sought after some much needed equipment: a bedside ultrasound. A bedside ultrasound will increase the efficiency and effectiveness in trauma and surgical assessment by allowing providers to perform Focused assessment with sonography for trauma (FAST) scans in the ER. FAST scans are performed by trained providers as a screening test for blood around the heart or abdominal organs after a trauma. Providers may also use the ultrasound to better perform minor procedures in the hospital, all while decreasing complication rates and risk of infection. Dr. Jay Taylor explains,

“Bedside ultrasound is rapidly growing in its utilization in primary care. By adding this resource to our toolkit, we can continue to meet the needs of our patients. We are so grateful our community’s support and will continue to do our best to serve you.”

The tournament concluded in the late afternoon with awards. Our first place winners earned a personalized jacket from Lookout Promotions and all other winners won prizes donated from our sponsors.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from this tournament go toward the purchase of a portable ultrasound for the Emergency Department. Randi Coleman, Marketing Specialist and Event Coordinator went on to say,

“This fundraiser is a success due to many factors including the continued support from the amazing sponsors, the fun group of golfers that comes to play year after year, and the dedicated committee and volunteers that works very hard to host this event. We are fortunate to host our fundraiser at the Pondera Golf Club who has given us a deal on green fees year after year. The other expenses are kept to a minimum due to the support from the food and prize sponsors as well. We so appreciate the support and are very pleased with the turnout.”
