Pondera Medical Center
In December, the PMC team took time to reflect on the performance of the individuals and departments that keep this Hospital, Extended Care, and Clinic running. The staff was encouraged to nominate the individual and/or department that they thought best exemplified the Mission, Vision, and Values of PMC.
The nominations were compiled and considered for the annual award that PMC holds dear, called the CEO Award of Excellence. The award ceremony took place at the annual Christmas party along with the service awards and the “Archie Award”. This year we handed out two CEO Awards, one Archie Award, and 35 service awards for staff members that have worked at PMC for 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 years.
This year the Departmental Award was presented by Bill O’Leary, CEO, to the Emergency Department. The compiled peer nominations for this department described the ER Providers as “consistent in their dedication, respect, concern and compassion to the patients.” The nomination further explained that the ER Department truly C.A.R.E.S. (the acronym for PMC Values), as they are Committed, Accountable, Respectful, strive for Excellence, and provide Service to this community.
The individual CEO Award of Excellence was presented to Becky Foster. Becky, Manager of Environmental Services, has worked tirelessly this year to keep this facility clean and safe for our patients, residents, and staff. The nominations for Becky described her as “a great asset to PMC” and “she works hard and does so with a positive attitude, a smile, and never an unkind word.”
The Archie Award was inspired by and dedicated to the CNAs who work in Extended Care for their pride, compassion, innovation and dedication in the care they deliver to residents as well as to their team-building skills. Each candidate is nominated by the employees in Extended Care and the winner is selected from the votes given by their peers. This year Becky Nichter, DoN presented the award to Kristina Rauscher.
We are proud of all the award winners and all of the hard work and dedication the staff at PMC has shown this year. We are all looking forward to serving this community in 2018!

October 4th-December 20th 2017
PMC Wellness Center, Conrad MT
It has been a demanding ten weeks for our 2017 Biggest Loser Contestants. Their hard work and dedication has paid off! Of the 45 contestants that signed up in the beginning of October, 35 completed the journey with the help of the PMC Fitness Specialists, Heidi Standley and Nathan Thiessen. The public won the friendly competition against PMC employees by about 80 pounds! We are proud to announce that the final 35 contestants lost a combined total fat mass of over 141.8 pounds!
We are happy to announce our female winners, first place winner is Kara Bandow and second place female is Donna Jackson. They lost a combined total of 51.35 percent of body fat mass! In the men’s category, first place went to Nickellas Walker and second place went to Roger Paulsen. They lost a combined total of 24.09 percent of body fat mass!
The first place winners were presented with $150 Scheels Gift Cards. The runner-ups were presented with a $50 Scheels Gift Card. The gift cards were donated in part from Scheels and the Biggest Loser Competition Fund (a fund comprised of the contestant’s competition fees).
Congratulations to all the contestants that stuck it out until the end, you are all the “Big Losers!” and we are proud of your hard work! Stay on track and keep your eye out for the 2018 Biggest Loser Challenge.
How did we determine the body fat mass lost by each contestant? What is Body Fat Mass? Body Fat Mass is body fat that includes essential body fat and storage body fat. Your body fat percentage is a value that tells you how much of your body weight is made up of fat. We use the state-of-the-art InBody 270 Body Composition Test to show an accurate reading of a person’s percent body fat, muscle distribution, and body water balance. The InBody helps users identify problem areas and track their progress as their workout regime develops. The Biggest Loser Contestants were able to get a body composition test every other week to track their improvements.

Pondera Golf Course
The Pondera Medical Center had a great turn out for their Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser that was held on Saturday, June 17th. The tournament consisted of 14 teams, competing in men’s, women’s, and mixed divisions for the 1st place awards. Regardless of golfing ability, everyone had a chance to win a prize with the side games offered including the poker run, putting competition, and deuce pot. These fantastic gift baskets were donated to the tournament by local vendors.
There was also an endless supply of food available to the players, courtesy of the local restaurants and eateries. The beautiful day to play golf was complemented by the wonderful group of people that came out to play. This event would not have been possible without the generous support of local businesses.
The Pondera Medical Center is committed to providing “the best of care, close to home” to this community. In order to continue providing high quality care to patients and residents, PMC sought after some much needed equipment: a bladder scanner, an AED Unit, an IV Fluid Warmer, and a heated food cart.
PMC patients and residents will be easier diagnosed with urinary tract infections, overactive bladder, and other bladder disorders with a noninvasive bladder scanner. PMC will have added safety with the purchase of an additional automated external defibrillator (AED Unit) within the facility. An AED Unit can save a person’s life during sudden cardiac arrest by checking the heart rhythm and sending an electric shock to the heart if the heart is not beating correctly. This electric shock can restore the heart’s normal rhythm. An IV Fluid Warmer allows trauma patients to receive warmed fluids which can be critical for stabilizing emergent care. The heated food cart will help residents and patients throughout the facility receive safer food while in the care of the facility.
With the community’s support, this fundraiser has already added nearly $8,000 to the budget for the purchase of these items! PMC is still receiving donation money, which will be added to the total money raised. Raffle tickets are being sold for two MSU Bobcats tickets to the homecoming game on September 30th against Weber State. Winner of the raffle receives a one night stay at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Belgrade in addition to the tickets. Money from the raffle will be added to the equipment budget; call 406-271-3211 for more information before the raffle drawing on June 30th.

It wasn't your average Monday at PMC. First off, we had Mike Hewett, PA, in the facility to train the staff. Secondly, we managed to surprise Mike with a going away party held down in the Cafe.
Many laughs were shared as stories unfolded about Mike and his time at PMC. We thank Mike for the dedication to his patients and camaraderie with his coworkers that he has shared with PMC for the past 25 years.
Staff enjoyed cake and coffee as they celebrated Mike's time at PMC. Mike received gifts from some coworkers, including a coffee cup and scrubs embroidered with Mike's favorite saying, "I haven't eaten in four days!"
Thank you Mike, you will be missed!
